The ramblings of a somewhat bawdy, opinionated, pop-culture-loving thirty-some-year-old woman who feels like sharing her random thoughts with the world.
I haven't really been in the mood to take selfies lately since the few times I've tried, I've looked incredibly large or old in them. (It's basically the only way people can see updated pictures of me since I'm the only one in the household who takes pictures and I don't go out for others to take pictures of me. It's a fun life I lead.) People have been wondering what stage my hair is in now.
Well, last night I discovered that my hair is now like Carol's in The Walking Dead. Actually, my son had mentioned it weeks ago, but it didn't really register until I saw the show last night (she was actually in it again) and I saw these little whispy hair things on the back of her head.
I have those whispy things too! (Perhaps that means I'll have some sort of a wave in my hair now?) I think her hair is just a smidge longer than mine is right now, but it's pretty dang similar...except mine is blond, not grey. And mine's not quite as messy up top, but maybe I'll have to figure out how to do that, 'cause I kinda like it.
Too bad it's not Halloween - I'd have the perfect costume. I could be "Chubby Carol"!
And I could go around telling people to "Look at the flowers..."
Sorry - if you don't watch The Walking Dead, you have no clue what I'm talking about.
It's finally election day! No more campaign ads! No more flyers in the mail! No more phone calls from strangers at odd hours! No more "...and I approve this message." I'm so happy I could cry, but I'm not in a good spot for that so instead I'll go old school here and do the Dance of Joy!!!
I don't usually watch Monday Night Football, but the Packers were playing, so I had no choice. As I watched, I noticed a few things that I felt the need to share with you. Why? Eh, why not?
Isn't there some rule somewhere that you should never mix sports and politics? (If not, shouldn't there be?) What's with all of the political commercials during the game? Don't they realize that people are drinking heavily and that politics gets people even more riled up than football? They're asking for mucho trouble! (By the way...are we ever going to be rid of Super PACs? Political ads might be a little more tolerable without them.)
I've always been amused by the suggestive terminology of the game. It's especially humorous when it's just about, or past, my bedtime. Talk about tight ends and penetration sends me giggling for the next 2 plays. My husband does not find my giggling amusing.
Do we really need so many different penalties? I mean, how many different penalties do we have for players crossing the line of scrimmage? Offside, encroachment, false start...why can't they just have one penalty for any person, offense or defense, that goes before they're supposed to. The premature embarkation penalty. Simple. Done. It would be much easier for those replacement refs to remember everything. (Hands in the face? Really?)
The hand signals for their calls crack me up. The signal for delay of game looks something like a cross between I Dream of Jeannie and a mummy. Loss of down looks like a bad dance move. There are a few that make sense though...like holding and facemask...and look like the naughty thing the player did.
And speaking of replacement refs and hand signals, I found this fun online today.
HappyPlace.com is often full of snark and thereby linkworthy.
No, I'm not going to get into the outcome of the game. I'm a Packer fan - How do you think I feel? (In all honesty, I was tucked in bed sleeping soundly by the time the final play came about, but thanks to the internet, I got educated.) All I can say is that I hope the outrage from the officiating debacle last night and the past three weeks might wake up the NFL and get them to come to an agreement with the real officials.
In other football news...
My husband was kind enough to post this to my facebook wall the other day. How's that for love? I've never read the cheap skanky fan-fic trilogy from which this comes, nor do I want to, but if this guy was to show up at my doorstep decked out in this garb, I certainly wouldn't turn him away. Well, unless the kid was home. That might be a little awkward.
Ah, television. Personally, I feel there's a whole lot more crap on it than good stuff, but that's just me. I can't even say I'm completely against reality shows because I've somehow become hopelessly addicted to Full Metal Jousting. Well, I'm pretty sure I can figure out why, but still...
Anyway, over the years the networks have decided to stop running some of my favorite shows. For whatever reason - on for a long time, can't find the right audience, too expensive to continue producing, just stupid network executives - they were gone and a little part of me was gone with them.
Here are the top four shows that I would be ecstatic to have back:
1. The Tick
I don't think the powers that be knew who to market this to. It was shown for quite a while on Saturday mornings but more adults watched it than kids. The humor was awesome. I've seen every episode many times and have worn them out. I need something new! Spoon!
2. Deadwood
I was never really into the whole Western thing, so when this series was recommended to me I put it on my Netflix queue doubting I'd get past the first disk. I loved it! There's humor, there's blood and sex and drama. The dialogue is incredible and the profanity is woven in like golden silk. After three seasons it stopped. Not even any ending to the story. We were left hanging off of a very high cliff with no help in sight. Even if we could just get a couple more episodes to tie up the many loose ends we'd be satisfied. Just give us resolution! (The video below is not for those with weak ears...and this scene is pretty tame.)
3. Rome
My favorite show of all time. Beautiful sets, amazing dialogue, history, humor, sex, intrigue, Rome, Egypt, Caesar, Cleopatra, Antony, Pullo, Vorenus...I could go on forever. Unfortunately the show lasted anything but. We only had two seasons of this amazing show and then it was pulled because production costs were too high. I'm thankful that they actually tied up all of the plot-lines at the end, but the Roman Empire lasted for hundreds of years - there are so many more stories that could be told. This show paved the way for others like The Tudors and Spartacus, but it still has yet to be beat.
4. The Muppet Show
Sadly there's no way in the world this could ever happen. Sure, they could have a show on at night starring the Muppets, but it would never be the same without Jim Henson holding the reins. He could reach children and adults, make them laugh, cry, learn and be entertained all in one hour. I loved it as a kid, and watching the shows now that I get all of the adult humor and references, I love it even more.
Ummm...she's old. Very old. Isn't she in her nineties? And why are you popping up on my breaking news feed?
Yes, I made the mistake of putting entertainment news headlines on my internet home page, but that's because I like reading about movies and music...not celebrities. There should be a difference.
I don't care if Susan Sarandon made a comment about Nazis. I don't care if Lindsay Lohan is going to jail, drinking again, or posing for Playboy. I didn't follow the trial of Michael Jackson's doctor, I don't keep up with the Kardashians, and I really don't care what Donald Trump has to say about anything.
What is the fascination that the world has with celebrities' lives? Why does it matter who they marry or date or go to a party with and why should anything they say about anything other than their own area of expertise have any bearing on our day-to-day lives? I just don't get it!
Even if you're like me and don't watch E! or Bravo to know what's going on with these people 24/7, all you have to do is go to any supermarket checkout counter and you're bombarded with headlines about cheating spouses, tv stars' weight loss tricks, the latest celeb baby. Ugh! (I miss the days of the Weekly World News and Bat Boy. At least that was entertaining.)
I guess I'll have to remove the entertainment headlines from my homepage and just get my movie/tv/music news somewhere else. Well, for that matter I need a place where I can find news in general that isn't full on sensationalism , celebrity and spin. Any suggestions?
Well, any last remaining attraction I had to Alexander Skarsgard is now gone. All it took was one little video. I guess I was clinging to Eric's character traits which then carried over into the way I saw him, but this video finally threw up a huge wall between Eric's bad-ass-ness and skinny, scrawny, dorky (and in this case very drunk) Alexander. Witness the ickyness below if you dare:
No thanks. Guess I'll have to stick with Alcide for a while...and I don't even like werewolves.
I just realized it's almost October and I'm so excited! I LOVE October! Not only is it our wedding anniversary month and the month of my hubby's birthday, but it's Halloween! And it's not just the day that I enjoy, but the fact that they show Halloween-themed shows and movies all. month. long!
I'm not a huge horror movie person, but I do love the classics. Especially the really cheesy classics like the original House of Wax, 13 Ghosts, awesome Plan 9 From Outer Space, and on and on. I'll now have easy access to them this whole month be it on regular cable or via Netflix. Cable networks will also be showing plenty shows about ghosts and hauntings which I have been interested in since 2nd grade.
I think I'll have to make some sort of goal to watch at least 2 Halloween-y movies every weekend and as many shows as possible.
Well, after that downer self-pitying post I thought I'd liven things up a bit with my favoritest clip of hilarity ever shared on YouTube from one of my favoritest shows in the world. I watched Whose Line for years - both the British and American versions - and laughed at every episode. This particular game makes me laugh so hard that I cry...every time. You need to watch all of it and keep it somewhere in your favorites for those times when you need a big pick-me-up.
Ladies and gents, I give you Richard Simmons on Whose Line Is It Anyway
Pardon my absence, dear readers. I've been having computer issues at home and time issues everywhere else, so the blog has been neglected a wee bit, but I have returned! Leave it to me to write my returning post about men...er, a man.
As you know already, I'm a True Blood watcher. Unfortunately this season has been a bit disappointing for me. I'm not really sure why my feelings about it have changed. Possibly the branching off into too many different directions, possibly the fact that there's too much time in-between seasons and I've lost some interest, or possibly it's the fact that my dear Eric (played by Alexander Skarsgard) is no longer as appealing to me as he once was.
When the show began, he was a long-haired Scandinavian Viking bad-boy.
Now, this is a vampire I'd be happen to be bitten by.
Once the second season came around, they cut his hair, but he was still bad...very, very bad - and built.
There's nothing I don't like about this picture.
By the third season, he was losing the edge and going all metro-sexual wearing suits and toning down the bad-boy and getting all lovey-dovey, but there was still a glimmer of the naughty side and I could still say "yummy" from time to time.
Eh - not so much
This season, the nastiness is gone (so far anyway), the build seems to be gone, and Mr. Skarsgard is beginning to look the way he did back in Zoolander:
Okay, maybe not that bad...but still!
I was just beginning to lose all hope, when I was perusing Pop Candy as I do every weekday morning, and Whitney had a link to this interview with Alexander Skarsgard in (appropriately enough) Interview Magazine. When I was greeted by this picture, my glimmer of hope came back:
I have regained my faith in the fact that he can still be a bad boy when asked to do so. I just hope that this season asks for it. As I've said before, vampires should play with their food and enjoy it - Eric was the perfect example of that. If it ends up getting all Twilighty and sappy love trianglish, I'm out. At least I'll have these pictures to look back at to remember what could have been.
